Sunday family dinner’s, where did they go?
“You should sit with your family for 15 minutes a day…unless your busy, then you should sit for an hour.”
I don’t know about you but I sure love a Sunday afternoon dinner with family and friends.
The only problem is that these days they are few and in between.
Sure life has changed since we were kids. Both parents working, select sports for our kids, social media. There are many more reasons why we are to busy to sit down for dinner on a Sunday afternoon.
I know I am only one voice but maybe I can lead a movement to bring back the Sunday dinner and just get people to slow down and connect with the ones they love.
I remember as a kid having a special Sunday dinner more often than not. And it wasn’t the usual chipped tuna on toast dinner that mom tried to serve us as if were a real supper.
But the Sunday dinner’s were nicer. A pot roast or roasted chicken.
I loved them!
Now while as a kid I didn’t fully appreciate the effort that went into them I sure did enjoy eating them.
I also didn’t appreciate sitting down with my brother and sisters for dinner like I do now. We were too busy fighting.
Maybe deep down I liked having us all together? I don’t know. I just know they were special to me.
Fast forward to today and the crazy world we live in.
Everyone and everything is going so fast. It seems like we don’t have time for anything.
But is there anything more important than our family and friends?
Are we going to be in our later years thinking “I wished I worked more or I wish kept my house cleaner?”
Heck no, we will be thinking we wish spent more time with those closest to us.
This is what Sunday dinners do. They have us all just stop for a moment what we are doing and just enjoy life. They allow us to actually talk to one another and connect with one another. Oh sure the food is usually delicious ( especially if I am cooking 😉 ) but it’s not about the food is it? It’s about the joy of just being together.
I am going to challenge myself to bring back The Sunday dinner to my home and I hope you can follow.
Let’s take a moment and really enjoy what means the most to us..
